The Construction Industry Regulatory Authority (CIRA) has engaged the Dowa District Council’s Full Council in a strategic interface meeting aimed at enhancing collaboration in the delivery of quality infrastructure projects funded through various sources including the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
The engagement, held in Dowa on Wednesday, the 2nd of September, brought together councillors and council officials to discuss CIRA’s regulatory mandate and the critical role district councils play in ensuring that public infrastructure projects meet the required standards of quality, safety, and durability.
Speaking during the meeting, CIRA Chief Executive Officer Eng. Gerald Khonje emphasized the importance of strengthening partnerships between the Authority and local councils to safeguard public investments in infrastructure development.
“This interface is very crucial as it strengthens the partnership between CIRA and district councils. Through such collaboration, we can better safeguard public investment in infrastructure and ensure that communities benefit from quality construction products and services,” said Eng. Khonje.
He further highlighted CIRA’s commitment to supporting councils in promoting compliance with construction standards and best practices throughout the implementation of development projects.
The CEO encouraged councillors to work closely with CIRA in monitoring infrastructure projects within their constituencies to ensure that contractors adhere to the required industry standards.
Commenting on the engagement, Chairperson of Dowa District Council, Councillor Billy Mtika, commended CIRA for organizing the timely meeting, describing it as an eye-opening initiative that has enhanced the council’s understanding of infrastructure management and quality assurance.
“We appreciate CIRA for this engagement. It has broadened our understanding of infrastructure management and the importance of adhering to construction standards in order to deliver quality projects that benefit our communities,” said Councillor Mtika.
The interface forms part of a broader programme through which CIRA is engaging district councils across the country to promote greater awareness of its mandate and strengthen cooperation in the regulation and oversight of construction activities.
Through these engagements, CIRA seeks to foster a shared commitment among stakeholders toward delivering safe, durable, and high-quality infrastructure that supports national development and improves the lives of Malawians.
