Benjamin Themba Katola is a Contractor trading as Built Environs, he is a distinguished Quantity Surveyor, entrepreneur, and construction industry leader whose career spans more than three decades of outstanding service to Malawi’s built environment.
A graduate of the University of Malawi, The Malawi Polytechnic, where he obtained his Part I Certificate in Quantity Surveying, and the University of South Australia, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Building (Quantity Surveying), Mr Katola built a strong professional foundation with Turner & Townsend as a Project Quantity Surveyor before serving as Chief Quantity Surveyor at SR Nicholas. Guided by a vision to display the capabilities of indigenous Malawian construction firms, he founded Built Environs Limited, which has grown under his leadership into one of Malawi’s foremost indigenous contractors, delivering major hospitality, commercial, banking, educational, healthcare, government, and residential infrastructure projects nationwide.
Notable projects include the construction of a 500 Seat Conference Centre for Sunbird plc, the construction of Kasungu Maternity Waiting Village and the refurbishment of Kapeni House on Plot Number BC 16 for ICON Properties Limited in Blantyre City.
He has established a legacy that makes him eminently deserving of recognition with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
