Construction Excellence Awards 2026 – Life Achiever Eng. Wellington Mandowa

Eng. Wellington Mandowa is a Civil Engineer with 47 years of experience in the construction industry. He obtained a Diploma in Civil Engineering in 1975 and a Bachelor of Civil Engineering in 1983. He was subsequently registered with the Board of Engineers.

Eng. Mandowa is the Founder and Senior Partner of Willy and Partners Engineering. He is currently serving as a Board Member of Lilongwe Water Board. He has also served as Chairman of Blantyre Water Board, Board Member of Southern Region Water Board, and President of the Malawi Institute of Engineers.

Throughout his career, he has served as Resident Engineer for the construction of the Zomba and Mangochi Water Supply Projects, including intake works, treatment works, and pipeline installation. He also worked as a Design Engineer, undertaking structural design and supervising the construction of buildings, roads, and water structures. In addition, he served as Engineer for the construction of the New State House (Kamuzu Palace) in Lilongwe.

Some of the notable projects he has worked on include:

  • Liwonde Barrage Project
  • Stabilisation of the Songwe River
  • Shire River Pumping Project

With nearly five decades of distinguished service, Eng. Wellington Mandowa has made significant contributions to the engineering profession and the development of infrastructure in Malawi through his technical expertise, leadership, and commitment to professional excellence.
